Sparta Global Hackathon: 'Speak Out' in memory of Andrew Otero

In memory of Andrew Otero, a Sparta Global technology consultant who sadly passed away last year, Sparta Global is holding 'Speak Out', a Hackathon event to support Calm. Calm offers support to men in the UK, of any age, who are down or in crisis via its helpline, webchat and website.

At present the CALM zone's webchat function is managed between the hours of 17:00-24:00 - but closed after that. The aim of this hackathon is to develop a minimal viable product to help automate the webchat messaging out of hours. We will need all types of skills ranging from Product Owners, UX design, Development, Platform Engineering, Testing and much more to ensure we’re able to deliver.

But please do not let the above stop you from joining. We have a secondary goal for the day which is to not only raise awareness of the CALM zone, but mental health too. Whether you can build a twitter bot to help automate redirects for support, or join us on running live videos and manually pushing social media, your help will be invaluable.

'Speak Out' will take place at the offices of IG who have kindly donated their space for this event.

We want to say a big thank you to our partners involved in this event who have helped to make it all happen, to Andrew's mum for being a part of 'Speak Out' and the developer teams taking up the challenge.
