Sparta Global support Three’s Digital and Online teams.

Background

Three UK (a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa) is a telecommunications and internet service provider operating in the United Kingdom. The company launched in March 2003 as the UK's first commercial video mobile network. It provides 3G and 4G services through its own network infrastructure.

 

The Challenge

Amy Munn, Digital QA Manager, had been using an existing Consultancy to provide a range of Graduates, but these graduates had no test experience and it was taking Amy a long time to on board the individuals and therefore not getting value for money.  Furthermore, when hiring more seasoned contractors, Amy was finding that rates were high and they didn’t have the Agile experience her team so desperately needed. Ultimately, the quality of candidates being attracted did not meet their needs.

 

The Solution

Amy first engaged with Sparta at the European Software Testing Awards, where a chance discussion at the bar about her frustrations as a QA Manager resulted in meeting her now Account Manager. What transpired is that Amy discovered a company that could provide her everything she has been looking for – reasonably priced, trained and qualified graduates with an intense training schedule covering all the skills QAs need in agile environments. Amy was impressed with the quality of candidates coming through and could see that although they were Graduates, the fact that they had been through Sparta’s intensive training programme meant that the candidates hit the ground running in her kind of environment.

Three have utilised Sparta Academy consultants both for short-term, technical pieces of work and also for long-term roles as an alternative to traditional permanent recruitment. Ongoing, regular Account management has ensured that both client and candidates are happy, whilst Sparta’s high-touch approach has meant that Amy receives suitable profiles within minutes of sharing her requirement.

Three have recently on-boarded Sparta Academy SDET consultants to build and maintain a Ruby Test Automation Framework, a move which has already delivered an increase in productivity within 4 weeks.
