Working as a BA consultant at Christie's I have been given opportunities to control my own work. In addition to my day-to-day tasks - interacting with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to design or modify business systems and IT systems - I have completed user training, run presentations and taken part in software training.
After completing Sparta Global's business analysis (BA) course at the Birmingham academy, I joined Christie's Auction House and quickly felt confident in my role. I had expert training at Sparta Global and felt very capable of hitting the ground running and adding value to the business early on. Despite only being at Christies a short time, I don’t need to report to a project manager or lead BA every morning - I am already trusted to work independently and without someone looking over my shoulder. The whole business is now even using things I have written the requirements and specifications for. It is amazing to know that 1000 employees are going to be using something that I have helped to develop.
I am an ambitious and analytical young man with an entrepreneurial mind and keen interest in business and investing. This interest really plays in well to my career and my current role as a BA. At work I need to talk to stakeholders and team members to identify next steps for the business and in my spare time I look to do the same thing. Taking risks - when calculated! - in business is an exciting thing and I would like to spend more time looking at this in my spare time and investing in companies in the future.
After a brief stint in retail and volunteering for a local wildlife organisation, I graduated with a degree in Geology from Plymouth University. As part of an exchange scheme with my university, I spent a year studying abroad in Montana, USA. My time there helped me gain experience of working with people of different cultures in different learning environments which is still helpful today.
From my time at the Sparta Academy being exposed to so many different skills, developing an Agile mind set and having practical training, I was able to hit the ground running at The Ministry of Justice.
After seeing the impact of agile at Canada Life, I now spend time teaching, training and upskilling the people around me.
It’s great to know that my own testing work will have a direct impact on the way the business operates more efficiently in the future
