Gaia Caruso shortlisted for Women in IT Excellence Award17/09/2019
17 September, 2019 - LONDON: Gaia Caruso, Diversity and Inclusion lead at Sparta Global, has been shortlisted for a 2019 Women in IT Excellence Award. Nominated for Role Model of the Year (SME) – Tech Industry, Gaia has been recognised for being an accelerator for change and pioneer for gender equality in the digital ecosystem.
Sparta Global’s CEO David Rai says; “It is brilliant to see Gaia’s hard work acknowledged by the Women in IT Excellence awards. She understands the transformative role women can play in the future of IT and has driven Sparta Global partnerships with universities (including the University of Bedfordshire and University of Hertfordshire, among many others) to provide informative women in tech talks and panels about the opportunities for women in the industry.
Gaia has helped support and guide hundreds of young women in their careers at Sparta and beyond and was a driving force behind Sparta Global's Women in Tech award in 2018 – when we won Female Gradtech Employer of the Year.”
The Women in IT Excellence Awards were created to celebrate and promote the fantastic female talent in the technology industry. Now in its third year, the awards have already celebrated the achievements of more than 500 women.
“Working in technology has given me a place to thrive,” says Gaia Caruso. “Having started my career in academic research, I became interested in exploring employment inequalities in the digital sector. I have previously supported and produced research to highlight the benefits of equality and diversity in tech, which prompted me to pursue a career in early talent engagement. After joining Sparta Global, I developed the Universities Engagement team and worked directly with students and academic networks to engage, educate and nurture the next wave of women in tech and increase representation of currently under-represented talent.
In October I will transition into a new role as Diversity and Inclusion Lead at Sparta Global. With the support of organisations and publications such as Computing, I look forward to using my new position to improve opportunities for women in the technology industry and celebrate those who are trailblazing for others.”
Winners of the 2019 Women in IT Excellence awards will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 27th November. You can view the full shortlist here.
