Find out more about her journey…
Congratulations for being named Spartan of the Month for November! Can you tell us a bit more about how your journey with Sparta Global began?
It feels beyond fantastic to be named Sparta of the month! Knowing the hard work I have been completing has been recognised feels incredibly rewarding.
I studied Mathematics at Queen Mary, University of London, before joining Sparta Global’s Data course in London in September 2019.
I knew I wanted to work in data and get onto the career ladder, but I was not confident enough in my capabilities to jump right in. I found a job listing for Sparta Global while searching for roles online and
thought the training and practice on offer would be really beneficial for my career development.
How did you find your training experience at the Academy?
It was like a summer camp! I was able to make friends that I am still in contact with today while applying technical skills in a safe environment (I couldn’t break anything when testing my code!)
Having never worked in a professional environment before, the training offered me the perfect opportunity to understand the levels and types of communication, presentation, and attitude that were expected from me; something I would have struggled to prepare for on my own.
You are currently on client assignment with an organisation in the finance sector, can you tell us more about it?
I am thrilled to be working as a Data Scientist. Day-to-day I interpret issues that may hinder productivity and create ways to drive efficiency using the latest tools. I am currently developing a Power BI dashboard that utilises a data pipeline to automatically refresh data. This will enable easier interpretation of data to make quicker and more informed decisions.
How have you found your first tech role?
I absolutely love it! There was certainly more business analysis than I expected (I’d personally like to mention the Waterfall model, it is undoubtedly more relevant than you would imagine!) but the application of all those tech skills that accumulated over the eight weeks of training has been so gratifying.
On reflection, I can see how this role has let me develop professionally, increasing my confidence, skills, and knowledge. I am developing self-sufficiency as I continue to learn the life cycle of a data science project.
Are you enjoying working in the tech industry and if so – why?
The tech industry has proven to be perfect for me. That moment when you have been working on a piece of code and it finally runs without errors, might be the most satisfying feeling ever! It confirms that I have found the ideal position for me.
Would you recommend Sparta to other graduates and if so – why?
If you are not sure what the next steps are in your career, Sparta Global offers the ideal catapult into a technical role. Therefore, I would recommend the training program to all graduates in need of direction and encouragement.
