Richard Gurney

Richard Gurney is the Director of Education & Innovation at Sparta Global, overseeing the Technology Institute and leading innovation and learning across the organisation’s technology strategy. With a decade of experience in both technology and education, he blends technical expertise with a deep understanding of how people learn, ensuring Sparta’s training and services remain relevant, industry-leading, and future-focused.

Richard began his career as a developer before quickly discovering a passion for teaching and talent development. A career changer at his roots, he transitioned into technology after ten years as a professional golfer, reigniting an early interest in IT that began in primary school. His unique journey – spanning sport, business, technology, and education – now informs the design and delivery of world-class technology services and education solutions. From Junior Trainer to Board Member, Richard’s rise through six roles at Sparta Global stands as a testament to his expertise, commitment, and ability to deliver transformative learning programmes across global markets.

Known for a practical, hands-on approach, Richard focuses on leading by doing, learning fast, and making data-driven decisions to drive performance. Outside of work, he remains dedicated to golf, is currently building his own Grand Design, and enjoys time tending to his allotment.
