Symron Bains
Symron Bains is a DevOps Engineer in the Defence Sector.
Specialisms: CI/CD, Automation, Infrastructure as Code, Legacy System Migration
Symron Bains is an outstanding example of how a non-traditional background can be transformed into genuine technical expertise through Sparta Global. After completing a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Data, both from the University of Reading, and spending five years working as an IT recruiter, Symron made the decision to pursue a career change into technology, bringing with him a strong analytical foundation alongside the communication and stakeholder-management skills built over years in recruitment.
Joining Sparta Global’s DevOps Engineer pathway in March 2025, Symron underwent intensive training in our AI & Tech Institute, covering AWS cloud computing, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and containerisation. The programme gave him the technical grounding to translate his existing transferable skills into a genuine engineering career, and the confidence to hit the ground running from day one on client.
Symron is currently deployed as a DevOps Engineer within the defence sector, working within a team of eight. His day-to-day responsibilities centre on maintaining and configuring infrastructure using Ansible, alongside building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines that support the client’s wider technical operations.
A standout element of Symron’s work has been his contribution to a major legacy system modernisation project, leading the migration of a critical system from SVN to Git and subsequently introducing CI/CD pipelines and automation to bring the platform in line with modern engineering practices. This work has played a key role in extending the system’s lifespan and improving its long-term maintainability.
Symron’s impact was recognised early in his deployment with the title of Spartan of the Month. He achieved his AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification in May 2025, right at the start of his deployment, and is looking to build on this with further AWS certifications in the future, alongside his aim of progressing into a Senior DevOps Engineer role. Symron stands as a strong example of how the right training and support can turn a career change into genuine technical success.
