December Spartan of the Month: Michail Pliuscik

After attending the University of Vilnius, Michail discovered Sparta Global. The Data Engineering course allowed him to explore his passion for tech further, and has supported him in securing his first role as an Associate Business Analyst at a multinational asset management company! Read Michail's story below...

What and where did you study at university?

I studied Applied Mathematics at the University of Vilnius. During my university career, I was introduced to programming, applied statistics and data management which sparked my interest in a career in technology.

When did you join Sparta Global?

I joined Sparta’s Data Engineering stream at the beginning of May 2023 and graduated in June.

How did you decide Sparta Global was the right career move for you?

Sparta Global presented a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience. It was a crucial first step into the technology industry, providing a platform for learning and growth. As a career changer, I was attracted to the prospect of gaining a source of income whilst simultaneously expanding my skills and knowledge. Sparta Global provided the perfect setting for me to embark on this exciting journey.

 How did you find your training at the Academy, and how did your training prepare you for work?

My training at the Academy was an enriching and transformative experience. The Academy’s focus on practical projects and problem-solving not only deepened my understanding but also equipped me with the skills needed to tackle challenges in a professional setting. The focus on hard skills combined with the significant emphasis on the development of soft skills helped me tremendously when securing my first role. The training fostered a collaborative environment, encouraging teamwork and effective communication, which are essential attributes in any workplace.

Can you tell us about the connections you have built through Sparta?

The connections I have built through Sparta have enriched my professional life and created a sense of belonging to a supportive community. It is truly inspiring to be part of a network where individuals are dedicated to each other’s success. I consider myself fortunate to work with so many Spartans in my current role.

What is your current position and with what company?

I am working as an Associate Business Analyst at a multinational asset management company.

Tell us a little bit about your day-to-day role. What do you get stuck into?

As a Business Analyst, I am responsible for developing a Power BI dashboard to monitor the financial health of the technology department portfolio. My day-to-day activities revolve around collecting, analysing, and presenting data in a meaningful way. I start my day by liaising with key stakeholders within the technology department to understand their specific financial reporting requirements. Next, I dive into data analysis. This includes working with financial datasets and establishing data quality standards. The dashboard creation process involves designing visually engaging and informative reports. I use Power BI’s functionalities to create interactive visualisations that allow stakeholders to explore financial data dynamically.

How have you found your first tech role?

I have been preparing for my new role ahead of time to ensure I could “hit the ground running”. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as overwhelming as I thought it would be, thanks to the invaluable support and guidance from Sparta. While there is a lot of ground to cover, it feels invigorating and fulfilling to work in such a dynamic environment.

Are you enjoying working in the tech industry and if so – why?

I truly enjoy working in the tech industry. I always felt enthusiasm for improving and optimising processes, and I am thrilled that my passion aligns perfectly with the ever-evolving landscape of the tech industry. Even in my junior-level position, I am able to apply my skills and witness tangible progress and success in enhancing our ways of working. I feel motivated by the profound feeling of fulfilment that comes from making a positive impact. It’s a great feeling.   

Do you feel you now have the passion and skill to carve a long-serving career in technology?

Absolutely, I am confident that I have a solid foundation for me to pursue new opportunities within the technology industry. My passion for technology, coupled with the skills I’ve acquired, positions me well for a long and fulfilling career in this dynamic field.

What are you looking forward to doing in your new role?

I am looking forward to several exciting aspects. First and foremost, I am eager to contribute my skills and expertise to the team and make a positive impact on projects and initiatives, whilst collaborating with my talented colleagues and mentors. I look forward to learning from their wealth of knowledge and experience. I find myself truly impressed by the intricate, precise, and focused processes demonstrated by my peers. I feel like this is the best environment for growth.  

How did it feel to be named Spartan of the Month?

I am honoured and thrilled to be selected as the Spartan of the Month. It’s a wonderful feeling to be celebrated for your hard work and dedication.

Would you recommend Sparta to other graduates and if so – why?

I wholeheartedly recommend Sparta to other career changers and graduates.
