Recently named one of our Spartans of the Month, he’s proud to have his hard work, growth, and commitment to building a long-term career in tech recognised.
Congratulations, Mateusz, on being named one of our Spartans of the Month! A wonderful achievement, how did it feel when you found out?
It was a great honour. There are so many talented Spartans on the client site, so it really could have been anyone, which made the recognition even more meaningful.
Let’s start at the beginning, what and where did you study at university?
I studied Computer Science at Newcastle University.
When did you join Sparta Global?
I joined Sparta Global in October 2024, straight after finishing university.
What was it that made you decide Sparta Global was the right career move for you?
When I came across the role, it immediately felt like a great opportunity to kick-start my career. I liked the structured training approach, and the fact that the Academy was fully remote really suited me.
How did you find your training at the Academy, and how did it prepare you for the workplace?
The training covered almost every aspect of my current role. Agile was one of the first areas we focused on, and it’s something I now use daily. The certifications and hands-on JavaScript practice really helped prepare me for my role as a ServiceNow Developer.
Did you manage to build many connections through Sparta?
Yes, I made great connections with people from my Academy cohort, as well as with colleagues on the client side, where I was able to integrate smoothly into the team and working culture.
Where are you working now, and what is your current position?
I’m currently working as a Junior ServiceNow Developer at a Tier 1 Bank.
What does a typical day look like for you in that role?
Day to day, I pick up stories from my Jira queue and work through them as part of the current sprint. I also support new joiners as they get familiar with the application and help with data loads for the platform.
How have you found your first role in the tech industry so far?
I’ve found my first tech role really enjoyable and rewarding.
Are you enjoying working in the tech industry overall, and what do you like most about it?
Yes, I really enjoy it. Working in tech helps me stay up to date with new developments and continuously sharpen my problem-solving skills—all from the comfort of my computer.
Do you feel you now have the passion and skills to build a long-term career in technology?
I do. Over the past year, I’ve grown a lot in my role, which has given me confidence that I have both the passion and the skills to continue progressing in tech.
What are you most looking forward to as you continue in your role?
I’m looking forward to continuing to build my experience and developing further in my role.
Lastly, would you recommend Sparta to others, and if so, why?
Yes, absolutely. Sparta is a great way to get your foot in the door and build the experience that’s so important early in your career.
