LONDON, 9th, April 2020: Sparta Global, a technology services company designed to attract, train and deliver the UK’s top business and technology professionals, has today been announced as the Employer winner at the 2020 Technology Playmaker Awards in partnership with Booking.com. The award recognises Sparta Global’s commitment to advancing the diversity agenda internally and working with clients to foster more diverse hiring across the IT and technology industry.

Booking.com, one of the world’s largest online travel companies and a digital technology leader launched the Technology Playmaker Awards in 2017 to recognise the achievements of women in tech and celebrate diversity of all kinds across the global technology sector. Winners were selected from more than 850 nominations and 45 finalists spanning 20 countries. This year’s ten winners represent five continents and come from Argentina, France, India, Nigeria, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States.

“Whittling our submissions down to ten winners and one Technology Playmaker of the Year has certainly been a challenging - but inspiring - process for the judging panel,” says Gillian Tans, Chairwoman at Booking.com. “It reflects not only the high quality of entries we’ve seen, but also the scale of impact and influence that women are having in the global tech industry,” said “While we are unable to celebrate the winners in person this year as we had planned in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, it remains more important than ever to recognise those who are making lasting and impactful contributions in technology, as well as inspiring each other.”

On the award win, Sparta Global CEO David Rai, says; “We are thrilled to see Sparta Global recognised as Employer of the Year at the 2020 Technology Playmaker Award. This recognition is testament to the unending commitment our Spartan community and employees share around advancing the diversity agenda within our company and wider IT industry.

Diversity and Inclusion is in our DNA and this is why our Academies celebrate and nurture people’s differences. We know our community is better and stronger because it is made up of people of different genders, ethnicities, educational background and with diversity of thought. We want to share this message with the technology industry and drive equal opportunities for more women in tech. This award recognition will inevitably help with that mission.”

Here are some examples of what Sparta Global is doing to equal opportunities for women in technology:

  • Investing in a dedicated Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) function to support equal opportunities within our company and help clients foster change
  • Partnering with D&I forums such as; Code First:Girls, Codebar and the Tech Talent Charter to host free tech workshops and encourage more women to launch their careers
  • Working with 70+ universities - running panel sessions and workshops to provide access to role models and foster technical literacy amongst female students
  • Hosting Women in Tech panels, tech talks and external speakers - as well as community-based events such as You Equal Tech
  • Delivering funded technology training so our female hires can develop the fundamental skills they need to thrive in their careers - irrespective of background or previous experiences.
  • Assigning females to roles with FTSE 100 companies and helping to launch their tech careers
  • 23% of our tech staff are women
