Spartan Story: Adonis Georgiou

After completing a degree in Computer Science at the University of West London, Adonis joined Sparta Global in September 2024 on the DevOps Engineer pathway to launch his career in tech. Since then, he has quickly distinguished himself through his strong performance, consistently delivering real impact and adapting rapidly in a fast-paced environment. Now working as a Full Stack Developer with additional DevOps responsibilities within a major UK public sector organisation, he plays a key role in supporting critical, large-scale applications, contributing to feature delivery and maintaining live systems while earning recognition from both his team and stakeholders.

Let’s start at the beginning, what and where did you study at university?

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of West London, before going on to begin a Master’s in Software Engineering at the same university. I’ve completed the taught modules and plan to return to finish my dissertation in the future.

When did you join us at Sparta Global?

I joined Sparta Global in September 2024 as part of the DevOps Engineer pathway.

What made you decide Sparta Global was the right career move for you?

During my Master’s, I started working with DevOps tools for the first time and saw how valuable they are for supporting real applications. Sparta Global felt like the ideal next step - combining my full-stack software engineering background with hands-on DevOps training to become a more well-rounded engineer.

How did you find your training at the Institute, and how did it prepare you for the workplace?

The training was intense but incredibly rewarding. We covered a wide range of tools and focused on real-world application, not just theory. The trainers’ investment in our success really stood out, even in a cohort of ten, the support felt almost one‑to‑one. It gave me the practical skills and confidence to contribute from day one and adapt quickly to team workflows and tooling.

Can you tell us about the connections you have built through Sparta?

I built strong relationships with trainers, fellow Spartans, and colleagues across teams. These connections have been motivating and supported my growth both technically and professionally.

Where are you working now, and what is your current position?

I’m currently working as a Full Stack Developer with additional DevOps responsibilities, supporting critical applications within a major UK public sector organisation.

Tell us a little bit about your day-to-day role. What do you get stuck into?

I work in an Agile development team operating on two-week sprints, focusing primarily on full-stack development as we deliver new features aligned to our product roadmap. I’m also involved in sprint planning and stakeholder collaboration, alongside responsibilities like vulnerability management, resolving Level 3 incidents, and supporting improvements across our DevOps tooling using Terraform, Jenkins, Docker, and AWS.

How have you found your first role in the tech industry so far?

I couldn’t have asked for a better first tech role. The level of trust and responsibility I’ve been given has been incredibly rewarding, and it’s a real privilege to contribute to such a critically important project every day. It’s pushed me to grow quickly and made my first step into the industry very fulfilling.

Are you enjoying working in the tech industry and if so - why?

Definitely. My academic journey already showed how committed I was to building a career in tech, and working in the industry has reinforced that even more. I enjoy the combination of creativity, problem-solving, and technology - every day feels engaging and meaningful.

Do you feel you now have the passion and skills to build a long-term career in technology?

Absolutely. The industry is competitive, and the Sparta Global programme gave me a real edge. The DevOps skills I developed complement my software engineering background perfectly, and the training gave me the confidence and practical knowledge I needed to hit the ground running. With that foundation and my interest in continuous learning, I feel well prepared to build a long-term career in technology.

Lastly, would you recommend Sparta to others, and if so, why?

100%, it’s an absolute no-brainer. I completed the DevOps Engineering programme at Sparta Global, and while it’s great for career changers, my experience showed me how valuable it is for tech graduates too. University teaches you how to build and design applications, but often in a controlled environment, whereas the programme gave me the broader engineering understanding I was missing, particularly around modern DevOps practices and cloud-based delivery.

The trainers also deserve a huge amount of credit. Even in a cohort of ten trainees, the level of dedication and investment they put into our success was incredible. The support often felt like one‑to‑one mentoring, which made a huge difference in my learning and confidence.

Because of all this, I genuinely feel the programme has fast‑tracked my career by several years, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a real competitive edge.
