Congratulations, Will, on being named one of our Spartans of the Month! How did it feel when you found out?
It was a real honour. Knowing my hard work had been recognised was incredibly motivating and pushed me to keep improving and developing my skills.

Let’s start from the beginning, what and where did you study at university?
I studied Computer Science at the University of East Anglia.

When did you join Sparta Global?
I joined Sparta Global in November 2023, shortly after graduating.

What made you feel Sparta Global was the right next step for your career?
As a fresh graduate, the combination of structured training and real client experience really stood out. It felt like the ideal way to get my foot in the door and start applying what I’d learned.

How did you find the training at the Academy, and how did it prepare you for client work?
The training was engaging and very thorough. It covered everything I needed to feel confident stepping into a client role, while also setting me up to continue learning and developing on the job.

Did you build many connections during your time at Sparta?
Yes, definitely. I built strong relationships with my cohort and trainers, and those connections have continued as I’ve moved onto client site with new colleagues.

Where are you working now, and what’s your current role?
I’m currently working as a Data Engineer within the Home Office.

What does a typical day look like for you in that role?
Day to day, I work on developing technical products based on requirements, running test scripts through ETL pipelines, and collaborating with stakeholders to support product delivery and development.

How have you found your first role in tech so far?
It’s been very rewarding. I’ve learned a lot and have been able to noticeably improve my technical skills through hands-on experience.

Are you enjoying working in the tech industry, and what do you like most about it?
Yes, I am. I enjoy being able to put what I learned at university into practice and then build on that knowledge in a real-world setting.

What are you looking forward to as you continue in your role?
I’m looking forward to continuing to strengthen my current skill set and growing further in my role.

Lastly, would you recommend Sparta to other graduates, and if so, why?
I would. The intensive training provides a strong foundation for client work, and the connections you build, both during training and on client site, are incredibly valuable for a long-term career in Tech.
