My Sparta Global work experience: Jospeh Burke

In August 2025, Northumbria University student Joseph Burke joined Sparta Global for four days of work experience – interested in understanding our model, people, processes and lessons he could take into his final year of university and further career. We asked him to share a bit about his time with us.

Giving young people access to work-ready skills and boosting employability is at the heart of what we do. This is why we advocate for organisations welcoming internships and work experience placements – it’s a powerful way to support social mobility and prepare the next generation for the world of work.

Today was the last day of my four-day work experience at Sparta Global, and it is safe to say that I have learnt more than I could have possibly imagined. From the moment I stepped into the office, you could feel the drive that resonates in and between all the teams. It was clear that strong collaboration between departments is increasing company efficiency – it allowed me to gain knowledge and experience on how departments can operate individually and in tandem to create the best result in whatever they are endeavouring to accomplish.

I spent the majority of my time at Sparta working with the sales team, particularly the business development executives who have shown me the ropes of various sales tactics, ranging from research and cold calling, or navigating social platforms like LinkedIn for intelligence on leads. I also had the opportunity to watch pitches from both the talent and sales teams here at Sparta - explaining the Hire, Train and Deploy model that is utilised as part of the services and education company, giving me insight into how to effectively display the service to a client or future Spartan.

The model to me is one which benefits all parties. An individual aiming to achieve a higher skill level in a specialised skillset within the tech industry can come to Sparta Global and receive training with competitive pay, while clients have the opportunity to employ industry-ready, trained professionals who can be moulded to fit the requirements of any given position.

I have also learnt about the application and relevance of various software applications to support sales and marketing in the business, technologies which I am certain will continue to be used in business when I enter the workplace after university. I have gained a strong understanding of how to maximise the use of both the CRM Salesforce and B2B platforms for exercises such as data analysis, knowledge which I will take with me into the corporate world once I have finished studying. How Sparta Global manages, analyses, and utilises data was shown to me by the marketing department – a team who’s objective is to spread awareness of Sparta Global through various different channels to both future clients and future Spartans. The marketing department is also responsible for gathering potential leads on sales, something which I enjoyed learning about as I feel it is beneficial to have a strong understanding of the required chain of events necessary to finalise a sale. It was an incredibly insightful few days!
