Supporting local talent in Birmingham

We recently spoke to our Talent Team in Birmingham to explore the impact of diversity-driven talent attraction and inclusive hiring on local talent, and how it is supporting socio-economic growth in the Midlands. Scroll down to read more...

Sparta Global was founded in the Midlands in 2014, opening its first Academy in Birmingham to support local talent pursuing a career in technology. While we may have since opened an Academy in London and moved our Head Office to the capital, our commitment to supporting talent across other cities and empowering local communities - remains intact. Across all regions, we are dedicated to promoting equal opportunities in technology and can now offer employment to individuals all across the UK.

Laura Ann Beddall, Talent Coordinator

“Being an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) focussed employer means I’m happy to speak to everyone with a passion for technology and help them kickstart a career in tech.  It is important to realise the barriers that women and minority backgrounds face within this industry and it’s crucial for us to facilitate a pivotal change, so I am proud to be a part of that. I work actively with universities within the UK to improve their knowledge of the digital industry, to encourage those from diverse backgrounds to realise their potential and guide interested individuals through the start of their new career.”

Roshani Bala, Talent Coordinator

“Working in the technology industry comes with a responsibility to recognise and challenge the gender disparity that has been the norm for a long time. I am proud to say that every day I get to bring in more intelligent women into the tech world, but also candidates who share our values and mission. With such candidates on track to be future leaders in the industry, we are slowly dismantling the gatekeeping of the past and instead making room for social mobility. As we venture into local universities and charities it is clear Birmingham is full of untapped potential, and I cannot wait to see where we can lead this potential over time.”

Alexa Chirata, Talent Coordinator

“Equality, diversity, and inclusion is such an important part of my role. My position allows me to make a real change in a sector where there is a lack of diversity. Representation matters. Bringing in people from different minorities, of different genders and socio –economic backgrounds, will change the landscape of the sector for the better. Having diverse individuals in teams results in different perspectives and different approaches too.”

Nish Singh, Talent Coordinator

“We are transitioning to an exciting time in history where the world celebrates equality, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) - and I am so happy to be a part of that change. I believe women should be given equal opportunities in every field. As an employer that actively prioritises ED&I, I can help women break into the world of technology and remove any obstacles that may hinder them reaching their full potential. Equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a better world. Helping individuals from different backgrounds and academia break into the technology world makes my role extremely rewarding. I have the opportunity to make a difference and partake in university events around the UK to allow individuals to kickstart a career in technology, regardless of their gender, background or experience. I’m proud to be part of a company that hopes to bridge the equality divide and achieve an inclusive culture by supporting a diverse representation in the world of technology.”

Kira-Mae Bentley, Talent Coordinator

“When speaking to young women from universities across the Midlands, I have found that most of them were not encouraged to pursue their passion for technology or have people who believed in them. Demystifying the tech world for women and giving them opportunities, has been the most rewarding part of my job. Watching these women progress with us and land impressive careers, has allowed me to see the very real impact our ED&I initiatives are having in the Midlands. This year I am looking forward to more impactful partnerships to empower women in the technology industry”.
